Outlanders are born outside the Land of Mists, are ripped from their cultures or lands, and find themselves deposited in a place that that is foreign to them. Count Strahd von Zarovich and Sir Tristen Hiregaard are not outlanders. Neither entered the Land of Mists as a stranger in a strange land. Azalin Rex and Vlad Drakov are outlanders. Each entered the Land of Mists as a stranger in a strange land. The entry of an outlander into the Land of Mist is typically effected by a manifestation of the Mists or the Outlander's Gate.
