A supporting character from Death of a Darklord, Gersalius is a wizard and the mentor for Elaine Clairn. For example, he taught her the ability of mind reading.[1]
Background
Gersalius is an outlander[2]. In his youth, he was a thief, going by the handle of Gersalius Catpaw. However, he quit when his mother threatened to slice off his ears.[3] (Gersalius admitted that although his mother knew how to make very frightening threats, he did not recall that she had ever so much as switched him or his siblings. 
We may assume, then, that it was more a desire not to displease his mother than actual fear that motivated him to change careers.)
In Kartakass, Gersalius was begrudgingly allowed into the Ambrose Compound by Jonathan Ambrose so the Wizard could teach Ambrose's adopted daughter, Elaine, how to control her arcane magic potential. When word of the Zombie Plague of Cortton arrived, Gersalius joined the Brotherhood, both to continue Elaine's lessons and to assist in the investigation into the plague's cause and its ending. He helped Elaine discover and purify the poisoned water supply that doomed those who drank it to rise as zombies[4]. He also destroyed the zombie Tereza Ambrose with his fire spells.[5]
