Count Yvern the Scourge

Count Yvern the Scourge is a death knight who wanders Ravenloft looking for powerful enough holy champion to destroy him. Once a paladin himself, he was overshadowed by a man of lower birth named Daniel. Although their side won over the forces of evil and Yvern was to inherit the throne to his kingdom, Daniel received the fame and the glory as the champion of the righteous. Bitter and jealous, Yvern decided to make his name as a villain instead of a hero. He abandoned both his title and his paladinhood and joined the forces of darkness against Daniel and the side he formerly championed.[1]
Eventually he met Daniel in single combat, but right before Daniel was to strike the final blow, an arrow felled him. This denied Yvern the closure of being beaten by a superior foe. Since then, Yvern has been consumed by a wish to die by the hand of a superior foe. He continues to terrorize and conquer, but these are emotionally empty to him. He has met many a champion of good, but all have been too weak to appease his needs.[2]
