Overview
Kasselheim Blightlyng is the darklord of Vulnara and an old Gnomish Vampire (as per the racially specific variety) with the unique power to drain senses. This feature was a self-modification through the use of biomancy and High Alchemy. As abnormal as the ability to drain the senses is, it reflects the abnormal nature of Kasselheim in general. He loathes many of the normal things gnomes take for granted: illusions, humor and so on.[1]
Background
From the begining, Kasselheim rejected the ways of his people, lineage, and clan. He believed these behaviors demeaned gnomes in the eyes of other races. Kasselheim wanted something more substantial than trickery, and so he studied the sciences, then transmutation, and finally the practice of High Alchemy. From there, the desire to find something to convert the gnomes away from foolish parlour tricks became an obsession.[2]
The desire to make a countermeasure to render the senses immune to illusions is where things began to go wrong. A alchemical misstep caused a reaction that robbed Kasselheim of his senses. Delving into dark arcana and alchemy, Kasselheim transformed himself into a creature that fed on senses. The torture of his experimental subjects and the slaughter or transformation of their would-be rescuers was enough to make Kasselheim a darklord.[3]
Current sketch
As an avid explorer and discoverer of all things material, the loss of his own senses and the vampire's aversion to sunlight weighs deeply upon Kasselheim's soul. Furthermore, Kasselheim has no love for the creatures he spawns from he strikes with his Sense Drain ability. (He does not spawn vampires or vampire spawn but instead a special kind of aberration called the tactyle.) However, they protect him and obey his commands, so Kesselheim keeps them around begrudgingly.[4]
Lair
Kasselheim resides in an old fortress called Fang deep inside the underground.
