Hailing originally from the same world as where Mordent was drawn from, the main branch of the Reniers is a clan of wererats that lord over the domain of Richemulot. Led at that time by their patriarch, Claude, the wererat Reniers first entered the Land of Mists through an underground portal while fleeing from lycanthrope hunters in 691 BC. They surfaced in Silbervas, Falkovnia and plagued that nation for a period of years called the Years of Impaled Rats before they were driven out by Vlad Drakov and his servants. After the Reniers fled the domain through the sewers once again, the Reniers surfaced in the newly formed domain of Richemulot that same year. Claude remained family patriarch and darklord of Richemulot until he was murdered and replaced by Jacqueline Renier, his granddaughter.[1]
The Darkonian Reniers
A lesser branch entered the Demiplane of Dread much earlier with Morden then spread out to Darkon when that domain formed, thus losing their memories before producing native born Darkonian children. These Darkonian Reniers are largely ignorant of their Richemuloise cousins natures as wererats. Although rebuffed by Claude Renier, Jacqueline Renier was eager to keep correspondence with them. During the era of chaos known as the Fall of Kings, many left Darkon for Richemulot at Jacqueline's request[2]
The Cult of Simon Audaire
Formed by Pierre Renier and Gerard Renier (both Richemuloise but nonetheless not natural wererats) in 735 BC, the Cult represents a major conspiracy to wipe the wererat taint from the Renier family. However, the group is far from Good; they venerate the remains of Simon Audaire, (Jacqueline Renier's father whom was poisoned to death by his wife and Jacqueline's mother, Marie Renier). Simon Audiare exists now exists as one of the reanimated Ancient Dead. The cult meets in the Renier family catacombs beneath Ste. Ronges.[3][4] Gerard sacrifices both wererat and normal human alike to Simon Audaire when the cult meets at the Rat-Mummy's Temple.[5]
