Chantel

Chantel is a character in the novel Scholar of Decay. Somewhere on the Renier Family tree, she was a young, albino wererat that had banded with Yves Milette and his clique for protection.

In Scholar of Decay

Chantel took a liking to Dmitri Nuikin as her personal plaything, but this was interrupted by Louise Renier snatching him away for her own purposes. Chantel's jealousy grew as she eavesdropped upon the pair's interactions until one night Chantel mistakenly thought Louise to have attacked Dmitri. Thinking the young man was hers at last, she jumped Louise (still in rat form), taking her by surprise. Not knowing the wererat nature of the Reniers, Dmitri surprisingly came to Louise's assistance, enabling Louise to kill Chantel. To avenge Chantel's death, Yves and the others meddled to ensure her plans with the Nuikin brothers never came to fruition.
