Marie, a resident of Port-a-Lucine, is the daughter of Marcel Delacourte and the former fiancé of the now deceased Jean. Jean and Marcel were planning on murdering the overly inquisitive Marie and testing a new type of zombie reanimation process on her that leaves the corpse] with the appearance of life. However, because she showed compassion to Nikolai Melentha in life, his ghost has been watching out for her. Jean's actions against Marie motivated Nikolai enough to kill him[1], and Marcel may be next.[2]
Marie has a vague awareness there is a ghost about, but Nikolai's attempts to establish communication thus far only panicked her.[3]
