The Empyrean Church is the premiere religious institution of Malosia. [1] Ever since subsuming the authority of the Malosian royalty eons ago, the Empyrean Church has reigned over Malosian society as well.[2]

Doctrine

The God Most High is the central figure and deity worshiped in this monotheistic faith. His children, the Sixfold Scions, are recognized as the saviors of humanity.[3] The main holy text of the faith is the Septateuch.[2]

Praised virtues include honesty, penitence, and the admission of sins. Heresy and witchcraft are condemned as vile sins eating away at the heart of Malosia.[3] Diligence is to be rewarded, but charity is not to be extended to the slothful.[4] Only the faithful are trustworthy.[2]

Members of the Empyrean Church do not use magic[5] (exorcisms are one possible exception[6].) Priests of the faith are to refrain from spilling blood, though the Truth Seekers, the torturers and interrogators of the Empyrean Inquisition, have found many ways to go about their business without transgressing that restriction.[7]

Structure

The Empyrean Church seems to have two divisions. There is the main clergy that serve as priests and preachers as in many other lands. The Empyrean Inquisition represents the martial arm of the church especially against heretics and witches.[8] Beyond the Truth Seekers mentioned above, the Redbreasts are the soldiers and law enforcement officers of the church. They arrest suspected heretics and witches and also maintain the prison]]s, such as Perdition Hill.

The seat of authority for the Church is the Empyrean Basilica on Scions Mount at the center of Caercaelum. The Inquisition is centered at the Citadel of Truth.[9]

Holy Symbol

The most important and sacred holy symbol for the Empyrean Church is the sixfold sun,[3] a sun with six rays reaching out from it.[10]
