This individual is a Chi-Folken, created out of the Mists in the image of the human lich Azalin Rex, Darklord of Darkon. In contrast to the original, the Chi-Folken Azalin is the Demilord of Darkon province in the domain of Madego. This version of Azalin is first mentioned in the article "Little Horrors".[1]

History pre-740

Between 644 BC and 740 BC, it is safe to assume that this version of Azalin moved in lockstep with the original, mimicking his every word and deed. On the Night of Music, when Lupta danced upon the sands of G'Henna province, Azalin was stirred to independent wakefulness for the first time. Feeling the power of the Spirits upon the land and unfamiliar passion rising from his very marrow, Azalin abandoned his work surrounding the Grand Conjunction and conjured great music from empty air. At least one of the Spirits - Iluviei Vorans - came over the lich-king's undead servants where they shuffled and plodded, enabling them to dance.

History post-740

As the Great Upheaval ground to a close, Azalin found himself in a world that had been transformed in ways both obvious and subtle. False history had been rewritten, uniting Madego's Core provinces in the Unholy Empire under Azalin's (nominal) rule. Madego's people and creatures were now free-willed and self-aware. The ancestral Spirits and the goddess Lupta were making inroads.

Azalin spent time he might otherwise have invested in the Grim Harvest in contemplation of inconsistensies in his personal history. Given the Chi-Folken method of reproduction, he might still create new offspring; why had he been obsessing over a son who had rebelled against him? He was startled fully out of his reveries around 749 BC when Borca, Dementlieu, Mordent and Richemulot provinces petitioned him to help them put a stop to the rogue nation of Falkovnia. Azalin accepted the request. The joint strike was launched in 750 BC and concluded in751 BC with the execution of the Chi-Folken version of Vlad Drakov, his male descendants and the Talons.

Current Sketch

Rather than work towards the Requiem or develop a scheme involving "S", Azalin is preparing to generate new offspring by means of the blood of clones. He is also heavily invested in the rule of his Unholy Empire, creating a unified codex of law; a process that requires high-level negotiation with and manipulation of the other demilords, who are largely resistant to the unificiation process. As the ultimate court of appeal for citizens who find themselves in conflict with the other demilords, his schedule is full - and surprisingly rewarding, given the new whirl of social renewal and political intrigue in the Core provinces.

When the Church of Lupta moved into his province and started to first eclipse and later absorb the local chapter of the Eternal Order, Azalin opted not to prevent this. Although his control over the Church of Lupta is not as secure as it was over the Order, its effect on his people is more positive than not. It keeps his citizens content, and the local branch of the Church of Ezra off-balance. The simultaneous increase of faith in the Spirits is a development the lich-lord views with equal curiosity and envy; like his counterpart, Azalin is incapable of learning spells outside his repertoire, but as a Chi-Folken he is at least capable of interacting with Dwimmerlaerer rituals to evoke the power of the Spirits. The sensation of taking part in - to him - entirely new magic is nigh-intoxicating, and Azalin sometimes struggles to control his yearning for more.

Spirits

Azalin is appreciative of the favour he received during the Night of Music, courtesy of Iluviei Vorans. He is leery of the spirit's hunger for dead things and the limits it sets to the power of the undead, however, and so he prefers not to get involved in ceremonies that focus on it. When participating in Dwimmerlaerer rituals, Azalin instead prefers to be part of communion with Funis Magicus, Philosophus Lugens, and especially Grossvaterbaum.

Statistics

Azalin could have been created fairly true to the nature of his counterpart. In this case, his statistics would be as follows:

However, the Dark Powers could have allowed for subtle differences. Assume the possibility that Azalin might be a Specialist Wizard. Chi-Folken are naturally more gregarious, giving him social abilities beyond those of his counterpart, making Enchantment less essential. Transmutation is less useful to an undead creature.
