As told in the tale the Curse of Ashington Manor, Rozaleen was a young Vistani girl who was kidnapped and taken to Ashington Manor to become the plaything of the depraved nobility there. Lord Herod Ashington forced her to produce a tarokka reading for their entertainment. After she could only produce doomsaying fortunes, Lord Ashington murdered her. Before she died, she cursed the house and those within. Thanks to the mystical power of her tarokka deck, her curse doomed the tragedy to repeat every 17 years in a repeated temporal distortion.

History[1]

Rozaleen was a Vistani woman of the Zarovan Tribe whom manifested her family's seer abilities at the young age of seventeen. Her father felt this was too early and forbade her from using the deck until she reached further maturity, threatening to throw away her mystical tarokka deck should she not comply. Ultimately, Rozaleen rebelled and fled the tribe, taking her deck with her.

While on the run, she was kidnapped by Hanford and Rostoff and taken to Ashington Manor for a night of entertainment with their fellow depraved party-goers. Recognizing who she was, Lord Herod Ashingon called for Rozallen to read the tarokka for him and his guests despite her repeated misgivings. After her readings continued to produce tides of woe, Lord Ashington told her to make with an entertaining result. When she could not, he threatened her with death in the middle of what would be her final reading. Before he followed through with his threat, she gave a warning to her victimizers- none of them shall leave the manor until she was allowed to. As Lord Ashington put his arms around her neck, she turned her warning into a curse. The day after, Lord Ashingon and his guests gathered for another night of debauchery that ended in a night of madness and bloodshed thanks in part due to Maekon's exacerbation.

Rozaleen's tarokka deck transformed the Ashington Curse into cyclical phenomenon, repeating the tragedy every 17 years- albeit with different individuals and circumstances- since the time she was murdered some 85 years ago. As the final anniversary of hear death approaches, the curse's power reaches its highest point. The spirits of her victimizers and others present at the time of Rozaleen's death- save for Maekon whom escaped the curse as a Vehrteig- have become trapped in the various temporal echoes of the cycle of victimization and murder. Thus, Ashington Manor manifests the different tragedies of its long history every 17 years in a state of temporal fluctuation not too dissimilar from Castle Tristenoira.
