Dr. Blake Ramsay

Originally from Mordentshire[1], Dr. Blake Ramsay is now the darklord of an island in the Sea of Sorrows simply known as The Isle.[2] He is haunted by the ghosts of his wife and sons because he murdered them in a desperate attempt to save his daughter. She was, and perhaps still is, the only person he believes is worthy of carrying on his work after he dies. This is ironic, given that he seemingly has not aged at all during the past century.[1]

For a chronology of Dr. Blake Ramsay's life, see the Isle.

Background

Dr. Blake Ramsay was a physician and surgeon originally living in Mordentshire. Aware of the taboo nature of his experimental surgeries (performed without anesthesia, no less), Dr. Ramsay sought a place of isolation to continue his illicit experiments without having to worry about falling afoul of the law. He could escape the scrutiny of the general public, but little did he know he had attracted the attention of the Dark Powers.[1]

Dr. Ramsay left his home in Mordentshire in387 BC[3], sailed along the Sea of Sorrows, and eventually landed on The Isle[1]

Over the course of several years (at least some prior to coming to the Isle), Dr. Ramsay's wife, Lady Helen Ramsay, produced several children, a daughter named Liza Ramsay, and two sons: Gregory Ramsay (a hunchback with oozing sores), and Blake Ramsay, Jr. ("feebleminded"). Blake's main purpose for siring children was to create a suitable heir to his research into the medical and forbidden sciences. Dr. Ramsay considered his two sons ineligible to carry on his work. Dr. Ramsay decided to give all of his attention to Liza as his rightful heir, and hatefully pushed away the rest of his family.[1]

At the age of 12, Liza was blown over a rocky cliff by a storm and died from the fall. After trying to revive her for 14 days, Dr. Ramsay killed the rest of his family and harvested their organs to revive his favored daughter as a Dread Flesh Golem. However, he was unable to fully restore the vital spark of life in her. Dr. Ramsay could see it in her eyes, which has become a center of his obsession. In addition, Helen, Gregory, and Blake Jr. haunt Ramsay Manor as ghosts to torment their killer for all eternity.[1]

Current Sketch

Dr. Blake Ramsay is obsessed with providing his daughter a suitable set of eyes, even if he must murder strangers to the Isle to get them. He is physically unimpressive and bound to the manor, but he is all but immortal, able to almost instantaneously shrug off any wound. In addition, he has been granted control over many of the native monsters of the Isle and a host of supernatural powers.[4]

Dr Ramsay is a skilled alchemist, having employed a wizard to help him create a homunculus minion.[5] He owns a copy of The Revelations of the Prince of Twilight and at least one intellect syringe, two magic items from Dragon Magazine #252 that were not included in the the House on the Edge of Midnight module.[6]
