Appissa is a Yuan-Ti Halfblood of considerable psionic power that is imprisoned in a hidden network of tunnels beyond the Shrine of the Eye on Mount Glacis in the domain of Vin'Ejal. She was in an eternal slumber until a mountain climber from Toldun discovered the Shrine, which caused her to awaken.[1]. Using her psionic powers to convince the visitor that she was a deity[2], Appissa offered the man the gift of prophecy in return for him acting as her priest and servant. The man agreed, and became known as The Eye of Toldun. Later, when the Eye became dissatisfied with the arrangement, Appissa appeased him by giving him a potion to allow him to enthrall any wife that he wanted. Dillura Ogfenhauer was the woman he chose. Later, Dillura gave birth to Benada Nameless[1], a weresnake[3] perhaps due to the influence of Appissa's potion.

Following Benada's murder of Dillura and the Eye[3], Appissa is left without anyone she can mentally influence. Her psionic reach only extends to the Shrine and the adjacent caverns, and the only ones who inhabit the Shrine are the ghost of the Eye and Benada, both unaffected by telepathic psionics. Although conscious, Appissa remained imprisoned. Before Vin'Ejal had entered Ravenloft, Appisa had hoped that by giving prophecy she could get the attention of a spellcaster that could free her from the magic that bound her.[2]

When the Eye first received the potion, he found The Bone Knife of Appissa, but Appissa forbade him from touching it.[1] Later, Benada found it and used it to slay Dillura and Ekkim. Benada carries it with her at all times because she believes it has some unknown influence over Appissa.[3]
