Anna Clause was born in the first half of the prior century, either in Barovia or in Mordent. Her family was wealthy and had immigrated from Krezk to a corner of the Mordentish countryside which was probably closer to Mordentshire than to Wescote Manor. In 643 BC, an arranged marriage was imposed upon her and Burton Wescote. Her family had had somewhat tense relations with the Wescotes. On the night of the marriage, she was involved in the death of Michael Wescote, Burton's brother, in what may or may not have been an accident. Shortly thereafter, she was chased into a bog by Burton's hounds. There she drowned, but not before cursing Burton to an eternity of suffering. Burton in fact lived for over century, during the last ten decades of which he aged not a day, was haunted by her ghost, and witnessed the bogs devour his estate. In 743 BC, he sought the intervention of adventurers. They were able to break the curse, putting thereby an end to Burton's life, the Wescote family, and her haunting of the Great Moor. In the years following her death in 643 BC, the Clauses moved by to Barovia.

Note

Anna Clause is the solution to the continuity problem posed by Ann Campbell.
