A priest with considerable psionic abilities, Ulmed was the founder and leader of the Ulmist Inquisition. He founded a powerful crusade against evil, but one tainted with fanaticism and zealotry.
History[1]
Before Barovia became a dread domain, Ulmed founded his Inquisition in Malitain, an independent city-state north of Prime Material Barovia. Along with his companions Ansel, Cosima, and Tristain and his other fellow inquisitors, Ulmed hunted all manner of supernatural menaces and sinister cults. He counted Strahd von Zarovich among his allies, particularly against the sinister Osybus and his priesthood. Strahd's slide into evil and vampire transformation deeply saddened Ulmed. In reaction, he made it the inquisition's mission not only to go over external, monstrous forms of evil but also the evil that dwells within hearts and minds.
With the help of his three companions, Ulmed structured his inquisition into three orders: the Order of Ansel, Order of Cosima, and Order of Tristain.
