The Scissorman

Known also as Olló-öregból in Gundarak, the Scissorman is a Bogeyman who has appeared in Barovia, eastern Darkon, G'Henna, Graben, Gundarak, Lamordia, Mordent, Nidala and Paridon.[1] Its creation was presumably inspired by the tailor from the story Die Geschichte vom Daumenlutscher ("The story of the thumb-sucker"), also known as the 'great long-legged red scissorman'.[2]

The Scissorman appears as a tall figure, a cross between a Mordentish or Paridoner tailor and a praying mantis. He wears a black-and-red pinstriped suit with gaiters, cane and top hat - all splattered with blood - and carries a huge pair of shiny, silver shears. While he is a pleasant and witty conversationalist, he is also a vicious monster that will murder or mutilate "naughty" children. Most horribly, he uses his powers to isolate his victims; if he is in a room with his prey, no one outside that room can hear what is happening inside.

When the Scissorman leaves a victim alive, they are often unrecognizable, the injuries seeming to be self-inflicted. It is said that he uses what he takes from his victims to tailor his clothes.

Allergies

The Scissorman is deathly allergic to water. It eats into his dusty skin like acid, rusts his shears and dissolves his features. A single cupfull is enough to send him running into the night. A full liter would be enough to (temporarily) kill him.

Known Victims

It is known that the Scissorman has murdered the siblings Liesel and Oscar Gleam during an unprecedented cooperative effort between all the Bogeymen of the Core to dissuade the Gleam family from further research into Bogeyman legends.
