High priestess of Bargrivyek in Justice and perhaps all of Friedliches Königreich. She is an outlander from a world where hobgoblins are the predominant race, though she is herself a human with only a bit of hobgoblin blood. Descended from slaves, she nonetheless rose in the ranks of the army's intelligence and was even named an "honorary hobgoblin". After an unusually chaotic tribe of hobgoblins stirred up a civil war among some of the local hobgoblin tribes, they were eventually subjugated by a Lawful Evil human wizard, who was apparently similar enough to hobgoblin-kind that they saw his conquest as deserved and followed his orders. The wizard sent Shawni to root out corruption in a nearby community, where she and her associates earned popularity through the redistribution of the corrupt mayor's treasonous embezzlement money. A series of events led her to question whether hobgoblins necessarily had to follow the evil ways she was accustomed to. The Mists eventually claimed her, and in the Land of Mists she discovered a book seemingly sacred to the church of Bargrivyek that depicted him not as an evil deity but rather a Lawful Good deity of peace and cooperation. This depiction blended well with Shawni's evolving mindset, and she shifted to a Lawful Good alignment (albeit with some Lawful Neutral tendencies.). In embracing Bargrivyek's worship, she also became a Favored Soul.[1]
Shawni does not seem to know that the version of Bargrivyek she follows is not the true Bargrivyek deity venerated on the Prime Material Plane but rather a fabrication of the Dark Powers.
