This section contains canon info from officially published sources |
Marya Markovia is one of the people buried in the catacombs beneath Castle Ravenloft that is mentioned in both Ravenloft I6 and House of Strahd. In life, she was loved by Endorovich the Terrible, but she loved another. Jealous, Endorovich attempted to poison Marya's lover but instead poisoned Marya herself. The lover took the blame and was hanged, but Endorovich's guilt drove him mad. Her tomb has been defaced by claw marks[1][2]
The details of Marya's existene are slightly different between versions. In I6, she is simply deceased[3] In House of Strahd, she is a vampire sleeping in the catacombs beneath Castle Ravenloft.[2] How she might have become a vampire after dying of poison is not mentioned.
In Expedition to Castle Ravenloft
In this 3rd Edition reboot of I6, Marya is not mentioned by name (instead, Endorovich loved a "woman in the Zarovich court."[4]
In Curse of Strahd
Marya's story is much the same as in I6 and House of Strahd. She has no tomb listed under Castle Ravenloft, though her former illegitimate lover is [buried]] at the Ivlis River crossroads (Chapter 2, Area F).[5]
