Background
A former president of the domain of Conquista - but never its Darklord - Johsson came to power during the unsettled period that followed the Vieuxlyese invasion. He would likely never have been voted into office if not for the fact that a far superior candidate for the presidency died during the first Masogani invasion.
Johsson is first discussed in the Conquista Gazetteer.
Controversy
Johsson was a particularly bad choice as president; he caused existing political and religious rifts between the northern and middle cantóns of Conquista to widen, made the lives of the Ulan and Xican tribes worse in his desire to subjugate them, and came perilously close to destroying what little democracy Conquista has and installing a new monarchy. All of this and more, he did not because he was influenced by outside forces, but because he was a vile specimen of humanity who wholeheartedly believed that his policy of racism and sexism and power-grabbing were 'the right thing' to do. His legacy continues to trouble the domain, as his laws ensure the poor remain poor, the Ulan are enslaved in all but name, the Xicana can only find menial-level work in the domain's northern cantón, and women must fear the loss of their freedoms.
Death
Johsson's plan to install a new monarchy became his downfall, as it conflicted with the plans imposed on Conquista by la Infestación and the Red Haunt. On the day he planned to announce his new law, which would have made him ruler for life and enabled him to determine the qualities of all presidents to follow after him, Johsson was instead killed by the two fiends.
La Infestación held Johsson immobile before a gathering of the Conquistan government, while the Red Haunt savaged his body. In the eyes of the onlookers, Johsson simply froze up, then succumbed to a series of tremors so severe they caused his bones and teeth to shatter. Tellingly, nobody lifted a finger to help him, and Johsson was allowed to bleed out. His death was described mockingly by the press, and his soul was ceded to la Infestación, who has continued to torture it ever since.
As a Dread Possibility, la Infestación may have much worse plans for Johsson's soul than merely torturing it for eternity...
