Haanifa al-Burki

Haanifa al-Burki has served as vizier to the House of Jabara for three sheikhs thus far: Vahid al-Jabara, his son Ferdous, and then his second son Behrouz. She is a widow with children of her own. Although she was also Vahid's lover, she never married him.[1]

After Ferdous' machinations led to the accidental death of Emir Talaal el-Khatib, Haanifa al-Burki led the movement to replace Ferdous with Behrouz. Once Behrouz was sheikh, Haanifa ensured that Ferdous quietly disappeared. She is not necessarily an evil woman, just coldly pragmatic. After all, killing the emir of Ibraq is likely to draw the attention of the Herald of Night, and his retribution would affect more than merely the sheikh.[1]
