Found in various domains of the Wartorn Cluster, the Church of Taiia is a monotheistic[1] institution devoted to the worship of the sun outlander goddess Taiia. It is divided in the Creator and Destroyer aspects, reflecting Taiia's dual nature as the maker and ultimate destroyer of the universe. The aspects are themselves divided into numerous sects. One of its main holy sites is located in the city of Hughsrest in Conquista.

Beliefs and Practices

The church believes that Taiia created the universe, and will ultimately destroy it. She brings light and warmth to the world, and will devour the souls of those who believe in her after death so they can become part of her glory, but will abandon those who do not to eternal darkness and cold. The church has little dogma beyond "Taiia is supreme and must be worshipped above all others". Her actions and decisions are not up for debate. According to doctrine, Taiia is the only goddess; all other gods are either fabrications of the credulous or fiends pretending to her exalted station. This means all other religions should be enemies to the faithful. Church doctrine is also opposed to arcane magic as a power that does not come from Taiia.

In the Wartorn Cluster, the church builds ziggurat[2]-style temples, and practices bi-annual human sacrifice[3]; one on midsummer to thank Taiia for the bounty of light and warmth, and one on midwinter to appease her wrath and motivate her to end winter's cold. In this manner, the church honours both Taiia's Creator and Destroyer aspects. Traditionally the sacrifices were volunteers who competed for the honour of dying for the goddess, but in modern times the sacrificial victims are more often condemned criminals who agree to be sacrificed in order to save their souls.
