Mictlan forms.[5]- Nikolas is assaulted and beaten by some miners from the Veidrava Salt Mine. Inza Magdova Kulchevich witnesses it but tells nobody until after the search is on. Inza gloats to Piotr, believing he will share in the enjoyment of Nikolas' suffering. Piotr is appalled and tells the search party of Nikolas' predicament, but not Inza's betrayal. Inza lies about Piotr being the one who witnessed the beating. Piotr is almost exiled, but Nikolas interjects on his behalf. Still, Inza escapes with her treachery unpunished.[6]
- As The Carnival makes its way through Borca, it picks up Roman Olzanik[7]
- Mister ? is picked up by Carnival as it visits Dementlieu[8]
- Jules D'Aubigne abandons and boards up his home because his printing press becomes haunted.[9]
- (This year or shortly thereafter) Mother Fury and her Howling Clan are driven from Verbrek by Alfred Timothy. They end up settling in Kartakass.[10]
- Alfred Timothy exiles and curses Carnagan Wolfe after he assists prey in escaping the hunt.[11]
- William Gruhman meanders through Martira Bay after being cut off from his doppelganger plant by some twist of fate.[12]
