Johann Haydyl is an adventurer and Knight of the Shadows whom wanders the entirety of the Land of Mists, but focuses his journeys around the Nocturnal Sea. He has worked closely with a number of heroes and other do-gooders, most recently the Foxgrove-Weathermay Twins.[1]
Johann Haydyl was once a simple hunter and trapper from Kirchenheim, Graben Island. However, his mentor and close friend Erik Vegardsen, had been secretly transformed into one of the lebentod. When Johann and Erik were trapping in the Zaubereiwald, Erik attacked Johann. Johann barely fended Erik off, suffering a near death experience for it. Traumatized and crazed from blood loss, Johann rushed to the boat they had taken to the woods and set sail out. However, unconsciousness overtook him before he could set a proper course.[2]
Johann woke up to find he had landed in the foreign town of Armeikos in Liffe. For a time he was employed as a dockworker, but eventually he discovered a traveling band of musicians called the Red String Quartet. Further investigations revealed they were actually a band of adventurers. After some convincing, they accepted Johann's plea to let him join despite his lack of musical skill. Johann went with them and adventured in the Core for a time until he ran afoul of the Talons in Falkovnia. Soon after this hostile encounter, he ran into Gondegal and the Knights of the Shadows. He was eventually inducted into the Circle after some fighting against Vlad Drakov's oppressive regime.[3]
The Circle introduced Johann to Toret Severin and through him the Foxgrove-Weathermay Twins. Their first major venture together was destroying a necromancer's bone golem.[4]
