Apologies for prolonged absence
I'm sorry to have kind of dropped off the face of the Earth for a bit. My elder cat has been having some severe health problems, and it's been a never ending whirlwind of vet appointments, fundraising and extra shifts to try to pay for his treatment, and sadly, time to grieve after we had to make the extremely difficult decision to have him put to sleep. It may sound kind of dramatic or stupid to some, but I loved that little orange tabby more than I have ever loved another animal, and more than I've loved most people. He seemed to come out of the mists themselves into my life, appearing one day outside my workplace, and crawling into my lap when I sat down outside to have a cigarette. I got to have 5 wonderful years with him, and I'd really like to memorialize him in my regular DnD game, as a a way to pay tribute to him for me and my boyfriend. I was thinking of making a custom wonderous item, along the lines of the wonderous figurines? a citrine cat figurine with a broken ear (he had cauliflower ear so one was regular and the other was gnarled and stubby). If anyone has any suggestions for the items abilities other than to summon an orange tabby, I'd love to hear them. As is now, I was thinking of a summon able cat familiar, 8 hours a day duration, and would like to give it a few minor abilities. One I had in mind was a low BaB attack that doesn't really do damage, but causes the target to make attacks in the following round at disadvantage upon failing a will save or something? I also thought about having something where it can help bolster you against horror saves, or to recover from failed madness saves? Obviously I haven't really sat down and thought it out too clearly yet, but I would love to hear any suggestions people might have, including if they think this is morbid or inappropriate. Grief is weird, and sometimes in the throes of it we don't think clearly, or can lack perspective on things, so I really mean it when I say if you think this is going to miss the mark, please tell me so I don't unintentionally cause more pain. Thank you, and sorry to trauma dump on all of you like this.

Very true. Especially as summer is my works busy season. Going to be a long month I think.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I had to let go of my own orange floof a decade ago. I still miss her, but in a good way. I'm glad she was a part of my life.
Perhaps the wondrous cat figurine grants a burst of luck once per day? The owner gains +2 on any single roll, even after the fact.

Thank you for the kind words, and what an excellent suggestion. I had the half baked idea of it gaining a few minor abilities as the party levels. They don't have a healer in their group and so I was thinking of trying to provide at least a bit of supplemental healing via it (which might be a little too on the nose) but I wanted to keep it appropriately scaled to their levels. Was thinking it could progress kind of like a familiar or an animal companion does, but not nearly as combat oriented, or as a static fixture. (hence the limited summoning time per day)IanFordam wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 4:26 pm I am sorry to hear of your loss. I had to let go of my own orange floof a decade ago. Sorry for your loss. I understand how pets can be as close as family members or friends. My condolences, friend.

Thank you so much friend. It's been really hard, and I'm kind of drifting still. Usually I spent most of my days playing various video games and watching media but none of it had really held my attention much the last few weeks. I decided to try to pick up a new hobby and so I got some 3d printed minis and a paint set and am going to try my hand at painting them. Seems fun and will give me lots to do in my free time, plus it will give me more things to use in my games.alhoon wrote: Tue May 13, 2025 3:36 pm Sorry for your loss.
