Apologies for prolonged absence

Post by Teravala »

I'm sorry to have kind of dropped off the face of the Earth for a bit. My elder cat has been having some severe health problems, and it's been a never ending whirlwind of vet appointments, fundraising and extra shifts to try to pay for his treatment, and sadly, time to grieve after we had to make the extremely difficult decision to have him put to sleep. It may sound kind of dramatic or stupid to some, but I loved that little orange tabby more than I have ever loved another animal, and more than I've loved most people. He seemed to come out of the mists themselves into my life, appearing one day outside my workplace, and crawling into my lap when I sat down outside to have a cigarette. I got to have 5 wonderful years with him, and I'd really like to memorialize him in my regular DnD game, as a a way to pay tribute to him for me and my boyfriend. I was thinking of making a custom wonderous item, along the lines of the wonderous figurines? a citrine cat figurine with a broken ear (he had cauliflower ear so one was regular and the other was gnarled and stubby). If anyone has any suggestions for the items abilities other than to summon an orange tabby, I'd love to hear them. As is now, I was thinking of a summon able cat familiar, 8 hours a day duration, and would like to give it a few minor abilities. One I had in mind was a low BaB attack that doesn't really do damage, but causes the target to make attacks in the following round at disadvantage upon failing a will save or something? I also thought about having something where it can help bolster you against horror saves, or to recover from failed madness saves? Obviously I haven't really sat down and thought it out too clearly yet, but I would love to hear any suggestions people might have, including if they think this is morbid or inappropriate. Grief is weird, and sometimes in the throes of it we don't think clearly, or can lack perspective on things, so I really mean it when I say if you think this is going to miss the mark, please tell me so I don't unintentionally cause more pain. Thank you, and sorry to trauma dump on all of you like this.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I had to let go of my own orange floof a decade ago. I still miss her, but in a good way. I'm glad she was a part of my life.

Perhaps the wondrous cat figurine grants a burst of luck once per day? The owner gains +2 on any single roll, even after the fact.
