Jester's Maps: size and scale?
Hello,
I'm using Jester's map of the Core for my campaign at home and I'm trying to figure out the scale of it. Is there a way to figure it out?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Jester's Maps: size and scale?
Depends on the map you are using
Use the one in the inside cover of the Ravenloft Campaign Setting : suggested scale is 20-25 miles per inch.
Calculate the distance between two points, and use the same on your maps.

25 miles per inch. Woof that is a big map.
Additional question. Do you include forests or mts without a ranger as double the inch?

You mean because of the terrain difficulty? If so, yes, move is slower in those.rpgcasey wrote:Additional question. Do you include forests or mts without a ranger as double the inch?

Re: Jester's Maps: size and scale?
I'm afraid I don't have the book you mention. I have the map from the Realms of Terror boxed set which is 1 inch = 10 miles. That map is from before the Shadow Rift was formed, so it's pretty dated. I also have Jester's Heroes of the Mists pdf, which has a neat map but I'm not sure about its scale.Joël of the FoS wrote:Depends on the map you are using

OK, then download this Gazetteer Atlas
On page 2, distance between Sturben is Mortigny is 20-25 milles. Use this to make your own scale.

I purposely omitted the scale.Morgane wrote:Hello,

Previous books put the scale of the Core at around 180 miles by 200 miles. At that size, the entire map would be 325 miles by 210 miles. Give or take.
Or, put another way, Liffe, which is about an inch on my screen, would be around 20 miles East to West.
However 180 miles x 200 miles puts the Core at somewhere smaller than Switzerland. Which is a pretty tiny landmass. Some people like to imagine the Core as larger, increasing it two or even five times. For that reason, I left the scale vague so people could decide on the size themselves.
(The same reason there was no scale in the 3e books as well.)

And I thank you for that, my Core is 20 times larger.

Re: Jester's Maps: size and scale?
I ve made this map of the Northern Core (befoere the Grand Conjuction). It includes places form official releases, netbooks and the Mordent Cartographic Society. It is 300 dpi so it can be printed in 57cm X 71,15 (22,44 in. X 28,01 in.) and the file is is 70 Mb.
It includes LAmordia, Demise, Dementlieu, Western Darkon, Northern Mordent and Richemulot, Falkovnia without the hilly region in the East and Dervich (G'Henna) and finally the Sea of Sorrows without islands.
The file is .JPG and will be available until 2020-12-03 15:33

I hadn't thought of that, good point! I'm more of a "small size Core" type, to be honest
