FWIW, I loved the ASoIaF books, and went looking for series like it, and was recommended the Mazalan series. I barely made it through the first book, and then gave up. So, I would say (from my perspective) that means the ASoIaF series is better, but if you liked Mazalan and I didn't, maybe that means you won't like ASoIaF because I do.

ETA: And in case anyone doesn't know this already: Season 3 starts on 3/31.

To tell you the truth Gonzoron, I had the original first two books. I started the first didn't make it 100 pages in. Didn't catch my attention at the time. So I opened the second book go about 150 pages in and then stopped. Finally went back to the first one and then suddenly it was like a rush!

I'd at least give the second book a go and I don't think the MAIN plot really get's going until the third book. *shrugs* but again to each his own. There are parts in the book that to me seem so slow or I don't comprehend the meaning at the time. xD

I've introduced two friends to the Malazan books and now they swear by it. One of the friends I introduced finally past me. He finished the series a few weeks ago. Can't tell you how much we qoute those books.

and that will be interesting it seems then if there's that much Nudity? Though I think my mind will probably make it worse than the show now. xD

I am pretty sure I will like both series. I'd urge you for the malazan give it one more try but no worries if you don't. I've laughed, cried, and a whole slew of emotions over the books that it will always have a special place on my shelf. Despite the fact that some of the best characters have died. T.T but, it's not everyone's cup of tea right? I just might be more widely open just like I am in music than most people.

I enjoyed it. Another "pieces are moving" episode without any real major changes, but some great character moments and scenes. I was a little surprised, then perturbed, then accepting of the major change to the Selmy story. I guess there was no good way to do it onscreen. Tyrion is awesome as usual. Margaery is awesome as usual.

The HOUND! I'm beginning to like him so hopefully he doesn't die unless it's epicly . Need to finish Malazan books but these last 300 pages are killin me with sorrow. Then I can read the books and catch up with this series. xD

I loved every minute with Margaery and especially with her grandmother. Golden. Love those Tyrells and their flower-scented farts.

Nice swordfight with Jaimee and Brienne, made me realize how much I miss Highlander: the Series.

First episode

Snow & Davos:

I can't say the intro gave me the feeling I got from his chapter; In the book he's ... shocked, looking everywhere, counting men and arrows.
They shortened the meeting with Mance. Well, that's OK I think but I liked better the original Jon's reply of "“And did you see where I was seated? Did you see where they put the bastard?”.

Davos on the other hand... hard to convey his feelings. 4 of his sons dead (or so we think so far). But they could have shown him contemplating rescue or death.
His determination to kill the Red Woman, blaming her for the deaths etc IMO doesn't convey well in the series.
But I say I prefer the meeting with Stannis-puppet than the "Hey! It's the Onion knight! You're arrested pal"

Tyrion

VIEW CONTENT:

Ehhh... what? Is there any meeting between Tyrion and Cersei? Still, awesome scene. The actress played Cersei well IMO, barely resisting to gloat, intimidating Tyrion to tell her what "lies" he plans to tell Tywin etc.
Well it wasn't suprise that the Tyrion/Bronn and Tyrion/Cersei scenes were very nice.
The meeting between him and Tywin was also... suprising. I would prefer the simple "Castlery rock? Never" in a matter-of-factly way instead of the long list of rewards Tyrion would earn.
Also, (book-wise) I haven't realized that Tyrion's bed-partners were as important to Tywin (or more) as Tyrion's deformities. In the book he seemed to be able to set aside Tyrion's birth defects but not his lifestyle.

Catelyn and Robb

Ehh... Are those from book 2? Catelyn's first chapter is when her brother tells her he sent warning that Jaime "escaped"
And when did Robb went to Harrenhal? I don't remember that from the book or the series.

Cersei and Tyrell Margarey

VIEW CONTENT:

I was laughing... the old goose and the young goose. I have no love lost on Joffrey, but I would certainly not want to be in his shoes in that dinner.
Calling -Cersei- old? OMG. The woman frets she was born a woman and not a man, she uses her beauty as a weapon and ... he calls her old?
And I've forgot how much Cersei was into the bottle! She is drinking as if she was in a Cretan wedding! And yes, her "dress" was indeed like an armor.

Daenerys
I didn't read her chapters in the book (just that Jorah kissed her), since in last book they were hardly compatible.

VIEW CONTENT:

The Unsullied... OMG. I actually checked for them in the book, but they're far ahead. I found a story about them, 3000 of them defeating 20000 Dothraki. That was a nice one.
Anyway, how large is Astapor, to be able to have 8000 Janissaries for sale when 1/3 survive the training? Even if ALL slave boys are trained as unsullied, it would require tens of thousands of slaves to be bought. And they say they choose for speed and strength.

Anyway, bookwise.
Holy crap... -what- Daenerys is doing towards the end of that chapter to "relieve" the tension?
Her hormones have gone wild it seems...

Episode 2:

Tyrell grandmother & Sansa.

VIEW CONTENT:

Heh, nice one. In the book, it was somewhat longer and as witty, ("Eunuchs are men with the useful part cut off") but I guess they can't fit any clever line in the series.
And OMG, Sansa is thick as a brick wall... at least in the series. She spills the beans. No innuendo. Clear treason. To his wife/her replacement.

And where do we learn of her talk with Joffrey? Also isn't it kinda early for Joffrey to start acting like Joffrey instead of a model lord courting a lady?
Also, Joffrey being a teenager, along with a half-dressed woman that suggestively touches his crossbow... should that result in more than talk of the actual crossbow? Joffrey seems to have been turned on by her talk of how to kill stuff and playing with deadly weapons after all.

Bran

The guys that found here were not as talented in the book as in the series. There's probably a reason they changed that.
Also the inn part is different and there's no mention of Jaime and Brynn. On the other hand... there's the hound there for some reason.

Anyway, as far as the series go, he and Brienne can take the 5 Dolton's men IMO.

In the books, Harrenhal was taken by the North (and handed over to Roose Bolton) in Book 2. Since they didn't include the Brave Companions in the series, they had to get Roose into Harrenhal another way. Also, they vastly accelerated the death of Hoster Tully, so this is quite different from the books, yes.

Episode 2:

Trust me, I remember about Harrenhal and the atrocious way it was handled in the series! A major disappointment and one of the main reasons I wasn't that eager for season 3.
That, and the human aspect they gave Cersei in series 2.


If there are so many accelerations... why they have HALF book 3 in the 3rd season instead of all of it?

It all happened in the books, more or less. We just don't find out about it until a later book. But rather than tell the actor, "see you in a few seasons," they worked it in and went with "show, don't tell."

Catelyn seems a broken woman after all these tragedies that befell her family.
Jaime saves Brienne? Is that in the book too? I've kinda lost track of his story.
