Urdogen the Red

Urdogen the Red is a pirate lord and a master spectre of his spectral crew aboard his ship The Raging Tears. It is also the floating pocket domain he is the darklord of. Like the crew, the ship appears spectral, but unlike the crew, it is fully corporeal. An infamous Faerunian pirate lord, he was known for maiming prisoners and making them ingest their own body parts. An alliance of Cormyr and other nearby nations defeated pirate fleet, and he fled. But as he made his get away, the Mists of Ravenloft engulfed his ship and eventually it crashed and sunk, killing all aboard. [1]

Urdogen now sails with a crew of 40 spectres, able to inflict woe throughout the waters of Ravenloft. And on the rare night when the moon can't be seen, Urdogen is able to reach out to his natives seas on Toril, but never to his satisfaction before being pulled back in at dawn. His curse prevents him from coming close enough to where he could ever even see land, preventing his revenge against the settlements that caused his defeat.[2]

Should the Raging Tears be destroyed, it reforms again after the next sunset. However, this has only happened a single time, in the wake of a humiliating defeat by Captain Pieter van Riese, a far more powerful ghost. Since then, Urdogen has learned his lesson on taking on such powerful spirits. Against the living, he can be a true terror. Even if his target's ship escapes, any victims who perished from Urodgen's attack come back as bowlyns to wreak vengeance upon those who lived when they could not.[3]

NOTE: Urdogen the Red was first mentioned in the Forgotten Realms accessory Pirates of the Fallen Stars.
