The Reverend

The ghost known as the Reverend is the darklord of Cabo Caridad. In life, he was a minister who lived in a small colony of people from the Hanswick Empire. He secretly held an affair with a married woman named Margaret. However, their tryst was eventually discovered (or rather, it was discovered she had a tryst) when Margaret became pregnant. She was to be branded an outcast and ostracized for the rest of her days. Overtake by anger and shame, the minister opened the dam and flooded the town, killing everyone inside. Again emotionally overtaken, this time by guilt and grief, the Reverend wandered about the land as the Mists surrounded him. He soon let himself from cold and starvation, such was his woe.

The Reverend rose again as a ghost to find new people arrive in his domain via the sea. Coming from a puritanical culture where the leaders could divide people, the Revered vowed not to let the same thing happen again. He terrorized and murdered any leaders or any other great deviations from the norm. Over generations, this has created an egalitarian, if strained and conformist, society.

Yet the Reverend cannot escape his own ghosts, so to speak. The last hours of his colony's existence are replayed as the ghosts of the townspeople buried underneath the lake water rise again.
