Serenissa Marie D'Aubliet is the darklord of Romagna[1] and a spectre of unusual strength that is the equivalent of a Third Magnitude Ghost.[2]

In life, Serenessa was the orphaned daughter of two commoners but was adopted by one of the local noble families. Although given all the privileges of the nobility, Serenessa became alienated from those around her. To compensate, Serenissa began weaving tall tales of her true parents, honorable and dashing nobles separated from her by chance. She told her friends, her suitors, and especially a pair of young children, twins she babysat for. Serenissa doted on the latter, thinking them incapable of doing her harm. However, they gave here a rude awakening: everybody around her knew about her commoner origins. Feeling shocked and betrayed, she pushed them off a ledge and successfully played it off as an accident the one moment her back was turned. So was the first violent act in her long-going path into madness.[3]

Paranoid and suspecting a grand conspiracy against her, Serenissa plotted a mass murder through arson. She lit the tapestries of the castle ablaze, burning everyone inside. From there, she went over the borders and came to Romagna, then a land on the Prime Material Plane. Deeming the Baron Etain worth of her affections, Serenissa climbed the social ladder from lowly kichten servant to the personal maid of the Baron's sister. She flirted and teased men of corresponding social position as she climbed the social ladder. But her full affections were always saved for the baron.[4]

Baron Etain and Serenessa became quite close for several months. However, Serenessa felt scorned and rejected once again when Etain chose to wed Lady Fialle. From atop a high tower, Serenessa confessed her love for him and then grabbed him before throwing them both off the tower to their (seeming) doom. As they plunged, Serenissa swore that they be together in death than apart in life.[4]

Serenessa perished, but Etain survived, albeit badly injured. He still married Fialle, and they produced a child. Serenissa's spirit did not rest well as she could only observe, but not affect, the life of the baron go on without her. Worse, she has to watch it replay every year. Serenissa can do nothing to interact with native Romagnians, only foreigners. With newcomers to the land, she tries to ease her pain through seduction and betrayal.[2]
