Overview

Paul Veneer was a serial killer and the crafter of the Anna the dread golem. Paul named after and intended this dread golem to be the recreation of his deceased daughter Anna Veneer.[1]

Before the accident

For most of his life, Paul was an irresolute drunkard, gambler, and adulterer. He had promised to take Anna Veneer horseback riding, but his promise lapsed as his debauchery began to seep into his fatherly duties. With some collusion from Louisa the maid, Anna got into the saddle and went horseback riding by herself. The horse later became spooked and threw Anna off a cliff.[2]

Paul went into a period of barely concealed misogynistic rage, abusing Louisa until she committed suicide. He also poisoned his wife to death simply because she reminded Paul of Anna. And then he fell into a deep depression, collapsing into solitary alcoholism.[3]

Anna the Golem

Paul eventually stumbled upon a Manual of Golems and became obsessed with recreating his daughter. He carefully chose victims for murder in order to get just the right body parts for his new golem. Leaving a horrible series of notes indicating how far along he was coming in his work of madness, Paul stalked and killed each one in turn as an expert serial killer would do. Unbeknownst to him, one of his victims, Deborah Colaria, had recently become afflicted with the lycanthropic disease of the werefox. Despite this unknowing complication, Paul not only completed his new Anna, but the parts from Colaria enabled Anna a limited form of shapeshifting. This shapeshifting enabled her to conceal her unnatural nature.[4]

Although things were perfect at first, the relationship between Paul and Anna quickly degenerated as the unnatural nature of Anna and the irrational nature of Paul made themselves apparent. Paul would be the first one to strike against Anna, but he did not strike the final blow- not being much of a match for a flesh golem. His crumpled and mangled body was later found by the servants.[5]

After Paul's mansion became abandoned, Anna would be the sole occupant.[6]
