Nature's Sorrow is a lich who resides in the Forest of Shadows in Darkon. In life, he was known as Meltos. He grew up in the town of Kellee in Tepest with his brother Leobe. After Meltos met Gorion, a Caretaker Druid, Meltos persuaded Gorion to teach him and induce him into the order of Caretaker druids in Tepest. Later, as Meltos was off looking for more lands to attune himself, the Three Hags of Tepest struck the Caretaker order and destroyed them. Meltos returned to find the ruins of the Caretaker's headquarters and vowed he would achieve vengeance.

After a failed plea to Leobe for assistance, Meltos wandered, eventually coming upon an abandoned shack. There he discovered the recipe for becoming a lich, written by Phantom's Bane. Just as he gathered them up, he met the gaze of the Three Hags, which caused him to flee the shack and ultimately all of Tepest altogether.

In Darkon, Meltos joined another branch of the Caretakers. As the years past, he managed to become a high ranking druid, but they never allowed him to become Archdruid. In desperation and frustration, Meltos turned to the notes on lichdom he had discovered so long ago. Meltos performed many dark deeds to become immortal, culminating with the betrayal and murder of his friend Jonathan (Caretaker Druid).

However, Meltos found that he could not cross over into Tepest to take revenge on the Hags. His rituals had bound him to the land of Darkon. Thus, he took the name "Nature's Sorrow" and claimed a chunk of the Forest of Shadows as his territory.[1]
