Keith de Lalune (NPC)

Keith de Lalune is the head of l'Eglise de Notre Peindre Dame ("The Church of Our Painted Lady"), the local church of Ezra in Karina. He is an Outlander and was once a priest of an Outlander Deity of justice unknown to the Land of Mists. Keith de Lalune entered Ravenloft in 724 BC, where he found himself hounded by both the terrain and the people. In Karina, he was taken in by Father Daltrey, a pious and kindly cleric of Ezra. Under Daltrey's instruction, Keith converted to the worship of Ezra and became a well known and popular priest in Karina. He also became good friends with another priest, John Twistle.

Sadly, this good fortune was not to last. Keith da Lalune became the victim of an insidious Kargatane plot to bring the church under their heel. It began with the manipulation of Twistle into poisoning Daltrey to assume church leadership, and then getting Twistle to turn on Keith and call for his assassination. Keith foiled an assassination attempt and learned of Twistle's betrayal, confronting him several times. After Twistle's apparent suicide, Keith was given leadership of the church.

Yet an assassin (Jorane Amos) still came for Keith. Although he managed to fend off her attack and capture her, the assassin would have the last laugh. She offered a way out of his fate: to work for them, else more assassins would come. She unleashed a barrage of threats, lies about the corruption of the Church of Ezra, and blackmail against him, and he eventually gave in, agreeing to act as an informant and spy for the Kargatane.

Since Keith's corruption, he has fallen into a deep despair, turning into an alcoholic. Although he still maintains a goodly facade, Keith's despair has allowed for more corruption to seep into his soul, such that he no longer totally hates but somewhat enjoys his duties. Such is Keith's corruption that in 752, he founded an orphanage to mask his perchance for eating children. Jorane has been by his side all along the way to ensure his continual slide into depravity.

Keith's is an influential figure, having had contact with Mayor Zachary Beauchamps, Mr. Peter Finhameau, Commander Anton Regess, Captain Johannes van Deusen, and even several people within Gabrielle Aderre's camp. As a dread possibility, Keith may eventually turn into a ghoul lord.
