Ferran Shadowborn

Ferran Shadowborn was a paladin and brother of Aurora Shadowborn[1] as well as the half-brother and squire to Alexi Shadowborn. Ferran accompanied Alexi into Shadowborn Manor for his confrontation with Ebonbane, and escaped back to the Great Kingdom after that adventure ended.[2]

Ferran went on to become head of the Order of the Circle, in which position he granted asylum to a traveler from another world, the penitent wizard Morgoroth in return for swearing loyalty. For quite a long time, Morgoroth served as a trusted and faithful adviser, so much that the other paladins set aside their misgivings and even the spirits that haunted the Phantasmal Forest were disregarded.[1]

However, all changed with the arrival of Lambert, a paladin pursuing Morgoroth from his homeworld. Lambert's warning about Morgoroth alarmed the rest of the Order of the Circle, but Ferran urged his comrades to be rational. After the disappearance of Lambert, Ferran rode off to Tergeron Manor. There he fought the undead remnant of Lambert and defeated him. However, Ferran disappeared and was presumed slain. After the kidnapping of Aurora Shadowborn by Morgoroth, the rest of the Circle were killed by the necromancer while attempting to avenge Ferran's death and save Aurora.[1]

In fact, the Order was correct in their assumption that Morgoroth had murdered Ferran, although not without regret. Out of grief, the necromancer put Ferran's corpse within one of the bedrooms of the manor.[3] Now that the Circle has been restored as the Knights of the Shadows, one wonders if Ferran is still resting peacefully.

A Light in the Belfry asserts that the King's Highway was constructed during the reign of King Ferran Shadowborn I.[4] Elsewhere Ferran Shadowborn is described as a "paladin-king",[5]  further implying that he became the king of The Great Kingdom of Avonleigh.
