Commander Hernando Mouriros is the brutal darklord of Mictlan. He leads an army of invaders from the Holy Empire. they were guided to Mictlan through the pass of Sierra Acora by the priest Patos Bartolemo. The horrible acts of the invaders and Mouriros brutal leadership have earned his men a cursed form of immortality but at a cost of an inability to achieve their goals of conquest and an eternal waning of their morale. They experience pain, disease, and trauma in the tangled realm of Mictlan but cannot die, save for being sacrificed on the altar of Huitzilopochtli. One of his men also dies with every settlement of the natives he conquers. To get around this, he has tried allying with some of the native communities, but they frequently break away the moment he conquers or allies with another city. This drives Commander Mouriros to greater and greater depths of treachery and terror to hold them together.[1]

Commander Hernando Mouriros' obsessive dedicates himself to bringing glory to the Holy Empire, and to Matherion through the conquest of Mictlan, but he cares nothing about his men's well being save for his nephew Fransisco Mouriros. After Hernando's formerly abusive but repentant father was murdered under suspicious circumstances, Hernando called for Fransisco to join him in the Imperial Army and then cut off all ties with his family and his commoner origins.[2]Unfortunately, Hernando's history of treachery may have rubbed off a little bit too much on his protege Francisco, for he plans to betray and supplant Hernando as commander of his army.[3]

Commander Hernando Mouriros has a death grudge against the Mitlan high priest Cuxi Yapanaque, and the feeling is mutual.[3] Ironically, if Mouriros were to perish (for unlike his men, he can be killed), Yapanaqued would likely "inherit" the title of darklord from Mouriros. However, this is only if Mictlan somehow managed to survive the inferno caused by the immolation of Mouriros' corpse that would magically occur after his death.[4]

Commander Mouriros has the ability to cause disease and inflict pain with but a mere touch.[2]
