Chief Constable James Wortle

Constable Wortle is an NPC that briefly appears in the module, Hour of the Knife. One of the Paridon City Guard, He is called to take Dr. Wolfgang Arturus to jail. If the player characters do not accompany him, Arturus makes short work of him and vanishes from Paridon.

Wortle also appears in Shadow of the Knife, where he is now Chief Constable of the Paridon City Guard. He plays an important role working with the player characters to solve the plot until his forced removal from office by the City Council of Paridon.

Biography

Constable Wortle was part of the Paridon City Guard at the time of Bloody Jack's 13th spreed of murder.

James Wortle later led the City Guard of Paridon as its Chief Constable) as the 14th murder cycle of Bloody Jack began in 755 BC. He was the fifth Chief Constable in 13 years. Wortle was widely recognized to have done exemplary work in his brief time in office. But the City Council was looking for an excuse to replace him because of his unwillingness to accept that the aristocrats of Paridon were not answerable to the City Guard. As the murder cycle progressed Wortle nearly snapped under the pressure and was removed from office. Inspector Francine Maxwell was then named Acting Chief Constable.
