Also known as a "Ghost Cat," an unfamiliar is an evil familiar that attaches itself to a victim who is in the first stages of temptation by evil. The unfamiliar can assume the shapes of other animals commonly employed as familiars, but the black cat form is its most common. It can only be seen by its owner, but good-aligned clerics and paladins can detect its presence. Not only is it a ghost but also a minor form of a Fury. One tell-tale trait to identify it is in any form, its eyes never blink. There may be more than one that exists.

Background

Ghost Cats will only present itself to someone who has failed a powers check. It will subtly tempt its new "master" to perform more heinous and evil acts. It will leave a mark on the victim that evil creatures and even Darklords can recognize and identify, so they will not attack or harm the victim. This is another beguiling trait of the Ghost Cat, giving its victim a sense of power and security. The complete ruination of its victim's life is the ultimate goal of the creature.

Unfamiliars were researched by a wizard known as Arrness.

Abilities

As mentioned before, only the marked victim can see the Ghost Cat. In combat, the Ghost Cat is a feeble opponent, but its scratch and bite attacks can leave festering wounds that require more time to heal. It cannot be turned, it is immune to holy symbols, and completely resistant against all magic. Victims seeking to atone for their sins face the wrath of the Ghost Cat, who will do anything in its power to stop the victim.

Other Notes

The Ghost Cat is identified by the source material as a "minor Fury" and at the same time, a ghost. Considering its resistances and powers, as well as its goals, it could possibly be categorized as a monster along with the Furies.
