Sea Zombies are walking dead born of maritime disasters[1][2] or spawned by Western sea vampire[3] or jolly rogers[4]. As such, the majority of the time the base creature was in life a sailor. Sea zombies are intelligent, hateful creatures[1][2], with great strength and agility.[5] They are difficult to turn, or rebuke[1][2], are resistant to magic[5], and are little harmed by piercing and bludgeoning weapons.[1][5] They are associated with fog, as they will follow it onto land.[1][2] Beyond that, they lack a metaphysical connection to it, unlike zombies raised by zombie fog. They are mute and usually uncommunicative, though sea zombie spellcasters utter verbal components in the form of incomprehensible whispers[1]. The stench of sea zombies rivals that of ghasts, and their weapons drip with a poisonous ichor.[1][2] Those not properly prepared to face them would be wise to run away, as the creatures are not fleet afoot.[1][2] Unless motivated by fog, sea zombies will not stray more than a hundred feet from the shoreline.[1][2]
Sea Zombies can be encountered in the domain of Saragoss[1][5], the Sea of Sorrows[1][5], and Souragne.[1][5] Sometimes they may serve as minions for sea hags.[6]

Certain powerful necromancers may be able to create them as well. In such cases, as with those spawned by a sea vampires and jolly rogers, the sea zombie is effectively one of the obedient dead.
