The four Bells of Evil and Lament are four giant bells enspelled by Tsien Chiang to each hold one of the souls of her daughters and also a piece of her own. Before being corrupted and desecrated by Tsien Chiang's vile magic, the Bells were sacred and belonged to various temples in Kara-Tur, but The Emperor of I'Cath removed and delivered them to Tsien Chiang at her insistence. Tsien Chiang bound the soul of one of her daughters (Scream, Spite, Hate, and Nightingale) to one of the bells, preventing death or aging but also binding her daughters to her will.[1]

Each Bell is housed in its own shrines in I'Cath. The Bells are almost totally invulnerable, only able to be destroyed through the use of a disintegrate, limited wish, or wish spell. If a trespasser comes close enough, the Bell will ring an enact a special defense, though this can be prevented through the use of a Silence spell. Only after the destruction of the Bells can Tsien Chiang or her daughters be permanently slain.[2]
