Fey, and in particular shadow fey, can have various special weaknesses, including salient weaknesses. These special weaknesses are termed "banes". Common physical banes against the shadow fey include sunlight and certain types of metal like cold iron. Banes to specific fey (whether individuals, groups, or breeds) include animal antipathy, fire, mirrors, images, rare plants, and water, among other things. Effects of banes can vary, from harming, weakening, or compelling the fey to warding away the fey or otherwise protecting the user of the bane.^[1].
