A member of the Order of the Guardians whom formerly guarded the Tapestry of Dark Souls.[1] Of great physical size and stature, possibly even of giant blood, Brother Hektor had been exploited as an enslaved professional murderer.[2] Nonetheless, he would become one of the most gentle and compassionate members of his sect of the Order of the Guardians. He was also the one to have the strongest bond with Jonathan.

Background

Originally hailing from Borca, Hektor was the son of a giant of a man, standing 8 ft tall and an equally large ego, bragging of possessing giant's blood. This garnered the interest of Hektor's future master, whom bought Hektor as a slave from his parents. Hektor's master regularly gave him a poison that would throw him into agony if he did not regularly have it. His liberation happened by luck and circumstance. While chasing one of his master's debtors into Dorvinia, Hektor was ambushed, beaten, and left to die in G'Henna. The poison eventually wore off, and he felt the pain. Driven to wander, he eventually met the Order of the Guardians. His agony was healed by Ivar.[2]

When Vhar stole the Tapestry, he stabbed Brother Hektor on the way out, but Hektor survived.[3] Much later, after the Tapestry's return and Leith's withdrawal into the Tapestry, Hektor and his fellow Guardians raised her son Jonathan. Hektor taught him the arts of fighting and wrestling.[4] Hektor was emotionally the closest to Jonathan[5], as much as he was noted for his bias in favor of the youth. Even following Jonathan's betrayal by releasing Morgoth, Hektor argued with Brother Mattas to give him the benefit of the doubt.[6]

Hektor's compassion was not enough to counter the sway the Tapestry and Morgoth had over the boy, for he helped Morgoth escape from the Tapestry and served him for a time. Upon Morgoth's first attack of the monastery, Hektor was involved in the defense and was injured but not maimed, as was Brother Peto. The Order won that battle, but they were heavily injured[7] Later, in Morgoth's finale siege, Hektor and the other Guardians were rendered helpless by magic, but Jonathan and Ivar sacrificed themselves to destroy both the Tapestry and Morgoth.[8]

Following the destruction of the Tapestry, the former Guardians of the Tapestry disbanded. Brother Hektor, along with his associates Brother Dominic, Brother Peto, Brother Mattas, and Andor Merriwite joined the villagers of Linde, at least for a time.[9]
