BioMass was the organic computer created by Dr. Pangul when he still resided on the Prime Material Plane. As Dr. Pangul believed that organic brains posessed superior computational abilities to machines, he created BioMass by stealing the brains of hundreds upon thousands of living people, forcefully networking them into an unnatural gestalt which he ordered to help him solve the mysteries of the universe.
Dr. Pangul was either unaware or did not care that BioMass existed in a state of horror and anguish; so long as it served his goals, any 'discomfort' it felt was irrelevant to him. BioMass's telepathic screams for help and release brought a highly unusual rescue, however; a fleet of Illithid ships came surging out of the Dark Zone and obliterated both BioMass and the planet it existed on, rather than suffer its signals of agony for a single moment longer.
Dr. Pangul has attempted to recreate BioMass in the Demiplane of Dread several times, but his efforts have been thwarted by various 'coincidences'
which may well be the work of the Dark Powers.
