The Asylum of Devering lies ten miles outside of Devering in the Mountains of Misery of Darkon. A patient at the facility by the name of Fressen Woodhall discovered a cadaver in the morgue with more than a passing facial resemblance to his father. The deranged young man set about to replace the dissimilar parts and reconstruct his father whom he had been told was dead. This led to the creation of the gibbering golem. Initially the creature fawned over its creator but eventually tired of him and ultimately murdered him. In the interim, the staff of the asylum was massacred. Many of the patients were spared, but were left to fend for themselves. Shortly afterward, and prior to the publishing of Van Richten's Guide to the Created in 739 BC, the golem was hunted down and destroyed by Dr. Rudolph van Richten at the urging of Jeffrey and with assistance of Jeffrey and the adventurer band known as The Hand. It is unknown whether the asylum was reopened.
