Abdul the Damned

As a child, Abdul Iben Azed showed the rare but not unknown psionic ability to influence minds. Sultan Amuraba had him educated and trained to serve as an emissary in the sultan's name. Using his powers, Abdul was able to establish great influence for the sultan and bring success onto Aljaugasba. Yet Abdul, denied the pleasures of the flesh, took to finding joy in achieving dominance and power over people. He dominated the sultan, and used him to enforce strict codes against the pleasures Abdul could not enjoy. These rules were collectively called the Amuraba’s Code.[1]

Prince Iben Amar, the traitorous son of the sultan, was heinous hedonist and could not stand these moral codes. A master manipulator himself, the prince lured Sultan and Abdul to a vulnerable position and then sicked his assassins on them. Overwhelmed and exhausted, Abdul was given a choice: kill the sultan or face death. Abdul caved and fell for the ruse, therefore enabling the prince to blame Abdul entirely for Sultan Amuraba's murder. Abdul was executed shortly thereafter.[2]

Before Abdul died, he shot his consciousness into a gem to hold his incorporeal spirit. However, that gem happened to be in the possession of Prince Iben Amar. To make matters worse, Abdul found that as a spirit, he has become bound by the sacred oaths he broke in life. His powers do not work against any native born of Aljaugasba. Finally, the Prince has broken up the sultanate and established an oligarchy in order to protect against something like Amuraba's Code from ever being established again.[3]
