Gundarak is a former core domain, originally ruled by Duke Gundar, and later by Dr. Daclaud Heinfroth. It was absorbed by Invidia and Barovia during the Grand Conjunction.
Chronology
- 251 BC - False History Sometime between this year and 263 BC, the Gundarakites, led by Nharov Gundar, settle in the area of the Dreadmount and Tepurich Forest.[3]

- 501 BC - Third Unwise Rebellion - Minor noble families rise up against the Gundars for the third time. The rebellion is crushed and Duke Boldizar Gundar executes all nobles not related to the Gundars by marriage.[3]

When they refuse, Duke Gundar calls on his son Medraut Gundar to torture them and curse them with a unique form of cursed undeath. After traveling through Barovia and Gundarak, Magda escapes Soth and his sidekick Azrael Dak.[9] Strahd manipulates Soth into going after Duke Gundar. Soth and Azrael penetrate Castle Hunedora, and Azrael kills Medraut Gundar as part of an effort to open a portal in the castle's basement. The effort fails.[10]

- 740 BC - The Grand Conjunction causes the land that was formerly in Gundarak to be split down the middle between Barovia and Invidia.[14] Dominiani disappears from Gundarak and becomes darklord of Dominia, a small Island of Terror.[13]
- 740 BC Strahd begins the annexation of eastern Gundarak. Nine months of bloody war ensues, culminating with Teufeldorf Massacre[3] Chaotic conditions among the Gundarakites causes Teufeldorf to fall easily into Barovian hands.[15] Meanwhile, Gabrielle Aderre cozies up to the village leaders in western Gundarak with advice against the Barovians. Her Invidian troops henceforth move in and occupy western Gundarak (including Castle Hunadora). When defeat seems imminent for the Invidians in the face of the superior Barovian troops, the Barovians stop with the conquest of Gundarak's cities.[14]
