Oh, hey, neat, I can message the Admin. I'm very curious as to the fate of two files. When attempting to access their pages, all I see is blank white. Is this true for anyone else? I know they're both very large files, so I'm wondering if the wiki isn't handling them properly. I believe User:Cure was able to make a thumbnail on a page, but the file itself won't show up.

See File:Ezranshield.png and File:Core's_development.jpg. If I could access the Ezranshield.png page I would definitely upload a 50%-75% reduced image. I hadn't noticed how GIGANTIC it was! --Nerit 07:22, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm.... yes, I'd noticed that for Core's_develpment, and what I've been planning to do was download it from the Core page, split it up into several panels, and re-upload as several files. (I don't like how the Core page now makes you scroll all the way to the right to see it. Am I alone?) But I hadn't considered that you can't replace the original image because the image page won't load. The problem is actually that the pics are too big for the thumbnail-creating program. So the pic you see of Core's development is actually the full pic. If you try to thumbnail it on the page, you'll see the same blank white page. (First thing I tried to get it to fit on the page). Trouble is that the file pages automatically include a thumbnail for each version, so they also won't load.
Have you tried going to the main Special:Upload page and uploading the smaller one with the same name? I think that will work, but you still won't be able to see the file page because it will still try to thumbnail the old version too. I'll look into it. I may have to go into the sql database directly and remove them. (Or find a more powerful thumbnail creator...).
BTW, User:Gonzoron is User:Admin, FYI, so either message should get to me. -- Gonzoron 13:53, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
I tried what you proposed and uploading took me to... a blank page! I believe I have borked your poor thumbnail creator. I don't even see my attempt listed on Special:RecentChanges. Boo. --Nerit 19:24, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, forget the big image. Delete it however you can, please. I've re-uploaded a sane size @ File:Ezran_shield.png. --Nerit 05:22, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Searching for Pages when they are Categories

Newly discovered problem with the Categories systematization :(. Good example and how Nathan of the FoS found the problem!: Search for "fraternity of shadows." You only get the (Real World) result. Why? Because the in-universe FoS page is a Category, thus it does not show up. A lot of new users won't know to check the box "Categories" before they search. By default search only reaches Main (pages). I don't know what to do! --Nerit 04:42, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

The plan was that categories taking the place of pages would have a redirect page pointing to them for just such an occurrence. In this case, there should actually be a disambig page, since there are two Frats. But you bring up a good point, that the _text_ of categories isn't searched by default, so even if every category had a page pointing to it, it would only search in the titles. I'll see what I can do. Might be able to make the search feature include categories by default. -- Gonzoron 12:15, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
hmmm... actually there IS a Fraternity_of_Shadows redirect page. I'll turn it into a disambig, but it really ought to have come up on a search. This is another instance of search weirdness, a problem we've had for a while. I will put new effort into improving the search. -- Gonzoron 12:18, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, that was easy. :) Try it now. Still have some search weirdness. (Our inability to search for "Wonder" seems to be stumping even the MW experts!) but now categories should be searchable by default, for all existing users and new users. -- Gonzoron 14:12, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
