Re: Repressed Sorcery

Another solution could be using the Wilder Psionic class with the cast under stress condition. Mechanics wise expending your psionic focus for metapsionic feats does show a loss of control. Also everytime there's the moment of stress casting have the PC use a the wild surge ability, which can reall...

Re: Carnival NPC's

As far as I know, the only 'published' 3.x Carnival stats comes from the Fraternity here, in one of their old Quoth the Raven netbooks: http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/Library.html

Other than that, I think you'll have to go for either unofficial conversions, or brew them up yourself...

Re: The Shining Bay Chronicles

One of the best sources for good d20 steam punky horror, particularly of the Victorian kind, is Etherscope. I've eager swipped a few ideas from that setting for Victorian-era Ravenloft/MotRD games, and with the themes you've identified (human despair, the rise of industry, the destruction of nature,...

Re: Grand Conjunction Changes that are not so Grand.

While your point is valid to start the campaign with the Shining Bay in place that can't be the case. Well, it could be the case... the Shining Bay could be a cluster with decent connections to the core a la Souragne pre-Conjunction, and then appear in the core during the conjunction. And oh, all t...

Re: Domains with no Darklord (sorta)

I did just this in the last Ravenloft campaign I DM'd for. Newumbria was created with more of a focus on the theme of 1890s New England and less on the story of the darklord, and he actually wasn't woven in until I worked on the history and decided on a concept that fit the domain's theme well. In t...

Would Nosos be a candidate for such a treatment? And Pardion... and possibly even Lamordia, Dementliu and Mordent. All depends on how far you want to take it ;) Steampunk fits rather well with Victorian Gothic themes very nicely, so if you don't mind upping the tech level of the Western Core, throw...

Another place you might want to check, if you're on a budget, is DriveThruRPG ... not as nice as a hard copy, but they work extremely well, particularly if you just want to bring a laptop to the gaming table rather than a stack of books ;) So the books you'll want are Ravenloft 3rd Edition/Ravenloft...

I did this with my homebrew cluster, Novia, which has a technological and cultural level more akin to Masque of the Red Death... there were trains criss-crossing the domains, electrical lighting, telegraphs, photographs, et al. The ultimate villain of the campaign arc was a tinkerer who discovered a...

Bluetspur. Is. The. MOON! ;) I mean, it just fits so bloody well... with vibes of War of the Worlds and the paranoia of knowing that those aberrations are up there watching everything you do... biding their time. Also, I got rid of the Shadow Rift, and placed Nidalia and Avonleigh in there, rotated ...

I did run a partial run of Expedition to Castle Ravenloft as a stopgap between campaigns last October/November. We got about... ohh... maybe two thirds of the way through the second part in 5 meetings, (though there were 6-8 hours long, so take that as you will). I must agree with with Jester about ...

You know, I wish I stumbled on this thread while my campaign was still running... so many brilliant suggestions that could have saved me hours of searching! Ahh well... save this for next time, eh? I do have a few more tracks to offer that I found and used quite succesfully in my own campaign: Battl...

You can also just make everyone and everything have bad names. If you're fighting for the greater glory of the truly angelic St. Todblut, then Dr. Mordenheim might be a swell fellow. This sounds easier... Send the PCs to the town of Bloodwaters or Dead Man's Flats... and have them face shadow fey o...

Also, may I direct your attention to the Frat's one liners ... many of them are quite chuckle-worthy ;) Now, if you're looking for personal tales, may I relate to you the one about the zombie chickens? Needless to say, scaring players with reanimated poultry tends to make them irate at you come the ...
