Overview
Xavier D’Arcey) was a Richemuloise nobleman turned adventurer.[1] He transformed into a marikith hunter because he betrayed and abandoned his friend Marc to the marikith hordes in order to prevent his own death.[2] Only his his writing keeps Xavier from going over the edge.[3]
Background
In Paridon his group of fellow adventurers learned about the threat of the marikith from down below in tunnels of Timor. Their marikith hunt did not go well, and most of them lost their lives. Xavier survived, but to do so, he betrayed his friend Marc and left him to be eaten. For this transgression, Xavier was transformed into a marikith hunter by the curse of Timor.[4]
Gaston and Xavier's other friends took the warped and unconscious body to a church of the Celebrants of Humanity. One of the priests there gave Xavier a magic potion to return Xavier to his human self. however, it only changed his mind back to its former human state. Horrified by what he'd become, Xavier fled, knocking over burning candles and braziers and accidentally setting the church ablaze. Gaston was the only other survivor.[5]
Xavier and Gaston returned to Richemulot, where Xavier fell into a deep depression. Gaston pushed Xavier into writing again, and Gaston procured the publication of Xavier's work. This in turn lifted Xavier's spirits and made him feel human again. Xavier has become something of a locally well-known, if mysterious personality of literature.[6]
Current Sketch
Xavier's human mentality has been slipping as he's been reverting back to marikith. He only forestalls this regression by hunting and eating the guilty. Jacqueline Renier has learned about this but does not mind the loss of a few criminal low-lives so long as Xavier only goes after the wererats she tells him to go after. Gaston does not know about this arrangement.[7]
Since becoming a vigilante, Xavier has earned the nickname The Render.[8]
