A character from the short story Tales of Ravenloft:The Rigor of the Game, Tisophone[1] was a Richemuloise gambler and later for a brief period the proprietor of the Iron Warden and the Warden of the Iron Hills. She is now most likely deceased.

Biography

As previously mentioned, Tisiphone was a gambler from Richemulot. Although she appeared (and pretended) to be a short, demure maiden, Tisophone was actually a quite ruthless murderer. Her nature was known by Oliver Arkwright, a former gambling rival who saw her rip out the throat of a cheating gambler. This is most likely a hint that she might be a wererat with exceptionally fine control over the degree of her transformation. Arkwright had heard she had been killed by the servants of Claude Renier, though this assumption was obviously proven wrong by their meeting at the Iron Warden tavern in Sithicus that comprised the narrative of the short story.

By the time of the beginning of The Rigor of the Game, Tisophone has been the owner of the Iron Warden for a number of weeks, having won the title from a Sithican man who she claimed had inherited it from his father. Unthar was her bouncer. As owner of the Iron Warden, Tisophone was at risk of becoming the Warden of the Iron Hills, a rank of office with a notoriously short expected lifespan, due to a hidden clause in the inn's charter. In the gambling tournament, Tisiphone managed to pass ownership of the inn to Arkwright. However, she and Unthar did not get out of the inn fast enough before Lord Soth came in to conscript his next Warden of the Iron Hills. Arkwright managed to escape gaining the title immediately through a technicality. Therefore, Soth drafted Unthar and Tisophone to serve in his place. They presumably died soon thereafter.
