The Sea Witch's Curse

The Sea Witch's curse is a highly powerful one levied upon Craven Cove as the people of the town of Widow's Peak burned her at the stake. She cursed the land to never produce great bounty, and she cursed the people never able to have children[1], until their "bones were washed away by the sea".[2] It was the horrendous nature of this curse that caused Craven Cove to become an isolated and desolate island of terror and the Sea Witch to (however briefly before her death) become a darklord.[1]

The Sea Witch's curse warped the terrain, causing it to become rocky and infertile. As a byproduct of the curse's malevolent power, a large gash formed along the middle of the domain, known as the Yawning Chasm.[3] Another aspect of the curse afflicted the Stone Giant, a powerful stone giant dreamwalker, warping the magic mirror that allowed him to commune with the dreams of his wife. Because he failed to fulfill his promise to aid her in his hour of need, the Stone Giant was now trapped in an eternal state of nightmares. His psychic agony warped the land around him, turning it into the roiling, horrific stone mass known as Grey Gardens. The nearby people were changed into monsters, their ranks organized by mage turned medusa Little Edie.[4]

Fueled by lights seen at the Sea Witch's old house, rumors have spread that the Witch has somehow cheated death, and that her true destruction may free Craven Cove from her curse. This is entirely hopeful conjecture- the Sea Witch is truly deceased. Her Curse survives without her continued involvement. Moreover, unless the realm finds a new darklord, the ending condition of the curse may come to pass as the domain comes apart at the seams.[5]
