Suraj Sathirathu

Suraj Sathirathu is the elder of the village of Jalanka in Sri Raji. Over the years he has grown proficient at convincing the Makara of Jalanka that no great evil stalks the land, knowing that the makara's reaction to evil would involve washing the entire village away.

Unfortunately, though, Suraj Sathirathu has fallen ill, and he suspects that he will soon die. He worries that his likely successor, Nimrata Bharadwaj, will not be able to appease the makara as well as he does.
